….And that’s a wrap on the second summer season of Bright Birmingham Speech Therapy! My heart is full as I shift towards beginning my 20th year as a school based speech-language pathologist. Preparations for next summer will begin in spring 2027.

We’ve made it to July 2026! Take a look at this beautiful work of art that one of my students made for me this week! I’m so inspired! I’m also so grateful for the families who put their trust in me to help their children improve their communication! Watching children arrive at my door each week with a smile on their faces is so fun and so rewarding!

June 2026
We are having so much fun in therapy this summer! This week, students made “pizzas” and played Zingo. I didn’t expect them to love the pizza craft as much as they did, but I could see from the smiles on their faces that it made working on their sounds so fun! One child insisted I cut it out into a circle before she took it home- which I was happy to do! It’s always a bonus when counting, number identification, and fine motor work can be incorporated into speech therapy.

“Rattlesnake Jake” is another huge hit with the students. It’s a great, simple reinforcer as skills are practiced.

Another resource I love to use is magazine clippings. They are high quality, full color photographs which really help with students who need realistic picture support when working on language- and they can be easily sent home with parents for practice! I use them to target lots of language skills like location, actions, subject verb agreement and describing.

Summer Therapy 2025
I can’t believe we are already half way through our summer therapy sessions! I am loving the progress I’m seeing in my friends! I enjoy spending time with my students. I get to know them and their families. We laugh together and play together. Therefore, all my students are also my “friends”!
Here is the sunroom that is used for therapy. It has a separate entry and exit from the rest of my home. I love the morning sun that comes through the doors and windows!

I have a table for my older friends, a table for my younger friends, and we are using so many fun and versatile materials!

Interest Inventories
I started the summer with an interest inventory for each of my student’s parents to complete. It’s a great way to find out what motivates each child, to keep them engaged and having fun in therapy! I got to do some shopping for some fun items, based on some responses! It was a great way to start off our first Bright Birmingham summer season!

July 31, 2025
That’s a wrap on Bright Birmingham’s first summer season! Each student started with a plan of care and ended with a progress report. It was so exciting to see progress! I look forward to serving students next summer and hope everyone has a great school year!
